FLINT (Jan. 26, 2012) — Longtime community advocate Pam Nelson has been named as Genesee Health Plan’s new community outreach specialist, GHP leaders announced today.

“We at the Genesee Health Plan are pleased to bring Pam Nelson on board,” GHP President and CEO Linda Hamacher said. “Pam brings 35 years of community knowledge to this role, and she is the perfect fit to work as a liaison between the Genesee Health Plan and the community.”

Nelson’s experience includes work with the United Way of Genesee County, the Voluntary Action Center/Information and Referral Service (now known as Resource Genesee) and the Salvation Army.

She has served as president of Quota International of Flint and is currently on the board of directors for the Intake, Assessment and Referral Center.

Nelson also serves as a member of the fundraising committee for Genesee County Youth Corporation.

Launched in 2001, Genesee Health Plan provides basic health services to about 25,000 adults in Genesee County who don’t have health insurance. Services provided include doctor visits, lab tests, X-rays and basic prescriptions. Genesee Health Plan is the only local health plan in Michigan that is funded directly by the community through a special millage.
